The trick when bowling as a seamer is to try and have the seam upright as it goes through the air so when it hits the deck it can veer either way depending which edge of the seam it comes down on.

You used to see fast bowlers shine one side of the ball on their pants as they walked back for the run up, ( not sure if they are still allowed to do that )...and this was often combined with picking at the surface of the opposite side with their nails, or rubbing dirt into it , that they illegally kept in their pockets. This was so the flight of the ball was affected with the air going round the ball at different speeds. I believe its the same in baseball.

Sir D ( who used to hate being the batsmen on the other end of a fast bowler ) of OAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4489310405541465454.post-12770810223280997012009-11-06T15:53:20.967-08:002009-11-06T15:53:20.967-08:00I remember James from the drinking across Britain ...I remember James from the drinking across Britain show last year. Lucky Man! As for cricket, any sport has those who push the edge of legality for victory.

The baseball, with its curved seams and softer cover, give the astute pitcher many ways to alter the flight of the ball. Pitcher are a special breed. I know, I'm the son of a Sailor and Pitcher.

Sir Hook Go Cards of Warrick

P.S.
