TIME TO BE AN "OUTER"

You all have heard that the Evansville area Knights have spent days imprisoned under a blanket of ice/snow/ice/more ice...

Good news: We survived, found ways to have some fun, and now are preparing for a great thaw. Temperatures are expected to climb into the 50s and even 60s this weekend and into next week.

Now that all the "widow makers" have fallen (and fortunately taken no victims that I am aware of), it's time to become an "outer." In this age of hurry and worry, it's time to get out and back to nature relax.

For brick and mortar breed filth and crime,
With a pulse of evil that throbs and beats;
And men are withered before their prime
By the curse paved in the lanes and streets.

And lungs are poisoned and shoulders bowed,
In the smothering reek of mill and mine;
And death stalks in on the struggling crowd --
But he shuns the shadow of oak and pine.

-- Nessmuk

Where to go? Lady Suzanne and I are heading to our tiny "cabin" on a now-frozen lake. But, in general, any place out to be satisfactory, where there are woods and pleasant scenery.

As someone once said, "It's more in the man than it is in the land."

As Nessmuk also said, "Let us be thankful that there are still thousands of cool...nooks besides crystal springs, where the weary soul may hide for a time, away from debts, duns and deviltries, and a while commune with nature in her undress."

  1. Gonna have to check ol' Nessmuk out. thats a corker of a poem .

    as you know i think we in the uK have stolen that blanket of snow and ice from your side of the bed,... you can have it back if you want.. i'm fed up with it after a week, it was pretty and holy at first, but now its affecting my ability to pay for this cosy warm nook called Home, which i am just now glad to have staggered into, knocked my boots off at the door, and put a big hearty soup on the stove...

    Sir dayvd.. ( lovin' Nature...lovin' this soup and my couch more, right this minute LOL ) of Oxfordshire

  2. I otta be an outer! The war cry of the power challenged, snow bound and cabin fever sufferers across the globe.

    Firing up the chain saws to contribute to my fire pit wood pile later today, sweeping the garage of all the salt and sand that we've been dragging into the house, putting up the generator and generally enjoying this sunny 60's day!
