Voodoo Lounge

It's one of my favorite bars, and it's only open once a year. The Voodoo Lounge, Home of Wicked Drinks, transforms the parking lot of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, my home Parish, into a night for Knights and their Ladies.

Hundreds of Bar Flies from Warrick & Vanderburgh Counties Buzz to the Voodoo to get buzzed. It's actually called Steak Night, and put on by the St. John's Men's Club. Raw meat awaits your selection on several large grills and beers are a dollar cheaper than the bars. Money is used to support area charities and its a great evangelizing tool for the Church.

This is Unity through Diversity at its finest. You wouldn't see something like this on the parking lot of a Baptist Church (I know, I used to be one), but the Baptist come here to drink. It's a Ecumenical night of dance, drink and love for your fellow man and his woman!

Coo Coo Cachoo Mrs. Robinson

Seeing how we have now migrated to the subject of Bar Flies, I thought it appropriate to share a story, insight, depraved vision, etc. from my journal several weeks ago while doing observations at Fado Pub in Columbus, Ohio.

As I was writing in my journal I was across the bar from two guys and a girl doing the "ritual mating dance" that we humans do so terribly. It became surreal when the music system started to blare out Simon and Garfunkel's, "M
rs. Robinson". As some of you know, but not the 20 something subjects of my depraved study, it is the theme song to the movie "The Graduate", where Dustin Hoffman's character learns all about sex from Mrs. Robinson, played by Ann Bancroft, real time wife to Mel Brooks. So without further ado, I give you my version of Mrs. Robinson:

Mrs. Robinson plays on the juke box...
while bar flies play tag.
Who is it tonight?
Who is right tonight?
What is right tonight?
Heaven is for those who wait...
or so the song says.
Or, as another song says...
the waiting is the hardest part.
That's why very few get it right.
Can they wait?
It's too late...
as they mentally masturbate...
while I pontificate on a society...
that defecates on itself...
while they wait for Mrs. Robinson.

More Beer Recipes (IF you dare).

The other night's trying of the new Budweiser product (beer, clamato, shellfish...) got me wondering what other people are out there trying.

Here are some other beer mixes and cocktails.

Magic Hay Ride

1/4-shot Bailey's Irish Cream

1/4-shot Frangelica

1/4-shot Vanilla vodka

Dropped into 1/2 pint Magic Hat No. 9

Drink it fast like an Irish Car Bomb.

Magic Carpet Ride

Shot of Tuaca dropped into a 1/2 pint of Magic Hat No. 9

Drink it fast like an Irish Car Bomb.

Guinness "Chocolate Milk"

Pour a shot of Godiva Dark Chocolate liqueur into a pint glass. Pour 1/2 pint of Guinness on top.

"Just like chocolate milk," Sanyi says.

-- These recipes provided by Lauren Sanyi at Liberty Tap Room.

Shandy

1/2 pint ale such as Bass

1/2 pint of 7-up or lemonade

Just drink it casually -- it's meant to refresh.

-- This recipe was provided by Mike Riiters at The Bohemian.

Sake Bomb

1/2 pint Japanese beer such as Sapporo or Kirin

drop in shot of hot sake

Drink it as fast as possible or your beer will get hot.

-- This recipe provided by Karen Thomson, bartender at Murasaki.

Now, I've personally always love a nice porter with my steak off the gill, but Meat Beer?

Liquify the steak, mix it with the beer, and you'll have dinner in a glass, a beer with the chunky residue of a steak floating to the surface. The varieties will include: Bacon Cheesburger Lager and Hamburger Helper Ale.

And finally, something called Cock Beer from several sources:

Take 10 gallons of ale and a large cock, the older the better; parboil the cock, flay him, and stamp him in a stone mortar until his bones are broken (you must gut him when you flaw him). Then, put the cock into two quarts of sack, and put to it five pounds of raisins of the sun - stoned; some blades of mace, and a few cloves. Put all these into a canvas bag, and a little before you find the ale has been working, put the bag and ale together in vessel.

In a week or nine days bottle it up, fill the bottle just above the neck and give it the same time to ripen as other ale.

So, fellow Knights, start cooking and mixing. Or maybe not. I think I'll stick to the pure form.
