Fun-da-mental Take II

I mentioned a few posts ago that ever since I wrote a post on quests, the topic keeps popping up all over the place. So, It should be no surprise (it still was, though) when I open the latest book I’m reading to a chapter titled “Fun Is Fundamental!” Sir Hook wrote an interesting post last week on Fundamental or Fundamiddle.

Here is different angle -- one that is also a great lesson to all Knights:
Doug Hall in Jump Start Your Brain, says that you absolutely must have FUN in all that you do -- especially your work. “If it isn’t fun, why do it?” asks Jerry Greenfield, cofounder of Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream.

Fun-da-mental: Mentally thinking about having Fun! Hall has built his career by pitching himself as fun, and maybe even slightly deranged. Fun is fundamental to getting the exposure you need to become successful.

Chic Thompson, author of What a Great Idea says that the average five-year-old guffaws about 110 times a day. As the years pass, our laughs-per-diem quotient drops until, by the age of forty-seven (my god, I’m passed that!) we typically yuk it up only eleven times daily.

And get this, there is another benefit to having fun: Your creativity will increase!

“Humor and creativity are kissing cousins. If you want to develop your sense of humor, invite more creativity into your life – and vice versa. In the presence of humor, new creative perspectives naturally occur. You can’t stop them.” -- Joel Goodman.

Today’s quest? Seek creative ways to have some child-like fun. As Mr. Hall would say, Nothing Adventured, Nothing Gained.
