In “On a Distant Prospect of Eton College,” Thomas Gray gave us the saying “ignorance is bliss.”

As I now begin my journey into the enchanted land of ales and lagers, I begin in the bliss of ignorance. Ales and Lagers? IPAs, Belgians, Dubbles? Stout/Porters? Wheats? Even Chocolates and Coffees? So much to learn!

Yes, “ignorance may be bliss,” but -- in this case -- the pursuit of knowledge is true bliss. Let's face it, if I fail this year to learn anything about beer, I know that if I have the love of my Lady and fellow Knights, I will be a true success.

Here's to the pursuit of bliss, one beer and one friend at a time.
