Happy Pie Day?!

No, no. NOT Pie. Pi! Seems that today, March 14 (or 3.14) is Pi Day.

Pi, Greek letter (pi), is the symbol for the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. Pi = 3.1415926535... Pi Day is celebrated by math enthusiasts around the world on March 14th.

With the use of computers, Pi has been calculated to over 1 trillion digits past the decimal. Pi is an irrational number meaning it will continue infinitely without repeating. The symbol for pi was first used in 1706 by William Jones, but was popular after it was adopted by the Swiss mathematician Leonhard Euler in 1737.

To learn more about Pi, you can visit this site where I stole all the above information:

I celebrated "Pi Day" walking the exact same 10 km (6.2) walk I did yesterday. Yesterday I put up all the directional signs; today I took them down. As "irrational" as it sounds, it is unlike pie in that the walking cycle does have an end. I did sweat out just enough of my Friday the 13th beer to partake in a few ales tonight with Lady Suzanne, Sir Hook , and Lady Winky. Perhaps I'll celebrate with 3.14 ales!

Happy "Pi Day."
