Being OPEN and the Fruits of Diversity

We have been speaking a lot about being OPEN during the past several posts. It is only fitting that the Knights of Moleskine, Spirit and Ale embrace their calling to be Unified through their Diversity, because this belief and way of life requires being open. And being open requires courage, the one quality of character that best personifies a Knight.

Emerson said, "Character is higher than intellect. A great soul will be strong to live, as well as strong to think." It is our courage to live and think that gives the Knight of Moleskine, Spirit and Ale the ability to remain open to diversity.

This requires a liberal mind, liberal meaning being open to all possibilities. A conservative mind remains closed to all things new. Now, it is possible to have a liberal mind and be conservative in nature and politics; however, it is next to impossible to be conservative in mind and open to diversity at the same time.

Being open and liberal of mind requires risk and venerability, two qualities that are often too scary to embrace fully. This is why courage and the ability to be stouthearted are necessary for the Knight who travels the trail of diversity.

When the trail is traveled well we are privy to an abundant life, full of possibilities, discoveries and a fullness that not only fills us up, but also spills over, like a fine ale, to touch those we encounter on our journey.

So, being OPEN plants the seed to the Fruits of Diversity: Courage, Trust, Abundance and the ability to Think, Drink and Be Merry!

Be Stouthearted, OPEN and Liberal in Mind!

  1. Theres a debate going on this end now as to whether your phrase "...its next to impossible to be conservative and be open to diversity at the same time." is correct or not.

Of course "next to impossible" means that it is Possible, good ass covering there hooky ) and there is a secondry debate opening on whether that phrase makes sense too..:)) ( this is fun ) I mean is that like "Nearly pregnant" , or "almost Sterile" ??

I suppose it hinges on the word conservative, and what it means in the US and what it means in the UK.

I vote Conservative at the elections, so now i'm thinking how that impinges my thinking on diversity.

Conservatives here are way different to Conservatives in the US, which are on the far right of Gengis Khan.

Liberals this side of the pond are different to your Liberals, which you call democrats in the US. we call them Labour.

Maybe i'm the liberal Conservative, or more potently i really am the
    " million different people
from one day to the next" that Richard Ashcroft sings about in Bitterweet Symphony.

Good debate tho for a Friday night in the Inn, might even end in a scuffle.

BTW hooky...did my box ever show?? I'm thinking now that the UK post got yours into town here okay...but the US post is dragging its feet your end.

  2. A good lesson, Sir Hook.

From Shambhala, The Sacred Path of the Warrior:

The way of cowardice is to embed (CLOSE) ourselves in a cocoon, in which we perpetuate our habitual patterns... FEAR of jumping out of the darkness and into the fresh air and facing the light of the Great Eastern Sun.

Being a warrior and Knight of Moleskine, Spirit, and Ale should be about breaking out of our cocoon of fear and darkness and opening up to the light of wonderful possibilities of human experience.

  3. Sir Dayvd,

I'm not sure that anyone where can define what "Conservative" or "Liberal" means in the U.S.

    We're hearing a lot of, "I'm a Conservative, but..." or "I'm a Liberal; however..."

(I didn't mean to imply that Liberals use too many semi-colons, but they are wasteful in that way).

  4. Sir Dayvd,

First, yes your parcel arrived two days ago and we're Feasting and Opening it next Wednesday evening, thank you!

Second, as to the debate, being liberal minded is not being political in my view of the post I wrote, but of being open minded to the diversity that surrounds us.

Politically, I'm a liberal conservative or a conservative liberal. This makes me a moderate, a four letter word in necon language. Of course, anyone who knows me, also knows that in life I'm not moderate at all.

I guess this makes me a labouring philosopher drunken partying moderately political minstrel of merriment with tendencies to lop off heads like Gengis Khan on occasions of barguments after too many ales!
