Cards Win Historic Game!

It was with great satisfaction that my second trip to see the Cards play this season ended with a win. It was also a historic game because Tony La Russa, the Cardinal Manager, was managing his 2,000 game for the team, the most of any Cardinal manager in franchise history. Red Schoendienst, the previous record holder, who also played with my Dad, gave the award to Tony before the game.

Having just stepped on Dad's brick for good luck, coupled with this surprise, I knew the "cards' where stacked just right in the Cards favor!

The highlights were in order:
1. Rick Ankiel, pitcher turned power hitting center fielder, made the most spectacular over the head, totally stretched out, dead run, body slamming on the ground, sliding until he hit the wall, catch for an out that saved at least 2 runs.
2. A rookie outfielder, can't recall his name, was placed into his first game with a pitcher switch, and proceeds to go 2 for 2 at the plate with an RBI. Not a bad start!
3. Albert Pujois homers to cap off the score 7-4. This was the 25th game I've gone to since Albert became a Cardinal and he has homered in everyone of them!

The only downer, besides having to drink Budweiser all day, was that the Chicago Cubs won their game and remain in first place. Of course, Lady Allwinky would say it was having to drive while I snored and cut beer farts all the way home!

Play Ball!

  1. Yes as we have said before... Lady Allwinky is a very brave and patient Lady. The Sainthood is in the post.

Brooks shows up tomorrow. so we'll get him into the taverns as soon as possible.
